Support in Somalia; Angelina Jolie and Brad Pit make donation to HIJRA

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt

In October, HIJRA was honored to accepted a donation of 340,000 USD from the Jolie-Pitt foundation to support our Emergency Health Programs in Mogadishu.

The funds will be used to support the expansion of our Mother and Child Healthcare Clinic in Mogadishu’s Badbaado IDP camp to ensure that 300 of the most at vulnerable individuals receive care each day.

The clinic, founded in July 2011, in response to the massive displacement seen from the famine, is a 9 room facility (8 exams rooms and 1 pharmacy) designed to serve the needs of a population of 28,000.  The facility is run by 5 nurses, 1 pharmacist and provides lifesaving assistance to 120 mothers and children per day.

The clinic delivers primary healthcare, treatment of communicable diseases and save motherhood services in EmONC (Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care), ANC (antenatal), delivery, PNC (postnatal), and gynecological care through the provision of essential medicines, equipment's and expertise.

"We are deeply honored to except these funds on behalf of the vulnerable families we are assisting in the Badbaado Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp of Mogadishu.  As one of the main actors in the camp, the grant comes at a critical moment, ensuring the immediate scale up of our emergency healthcare programs to address the coming epidemic season.  It is truly in thanks to the funds provided and individuals like Ms Jolie that many lives will continue to be saved."
