HIJRA's Emergency Outreach Teams Save a Mother's Life

Resize of DSC03600Nadifo Mohamoud is a resident of the Badbaado IDP settlement. She is nine months pregnant. This will be her fourth birth and second surviving child.

“It was very early when Nadifo’s mother came running to the clinic after she fainted over the family cook fire. We tried to dispatch the ambulance but the lines inside the camp were to close for the vehicle to reach. We had to walk much of the way with her on the stretcher to reach the clinic. When we reached the MCH Nadifo had slipped into a Hyperglycemia comma.” - HIJRA Ambulance Driver

“We administered Nadifo a Dextrose IV for low blood sugar to bring her out of the comma. In the camp, this is something we see often in our pregnant mothers as many are undernourished.” - Abba Yusuf, HIJRA Clinic head nurse

“I saw myself on this bed, the last thing I remember was putting the kettle on the fire.  I was later told by my mother that an Ambulance brought me here. I thank HIJRA for their assistance; it would be too difficult for me to lose another child." - Nadifo Mohamoud.

HIJRA works through its emergency health programs to support mothers like Nadifo providing outreach and clinic services in maternal healthcare; Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (EmONC), Antenatal Consultations (ANC), Post Natal (PNC) and gynecological services.

HIJRA further supports the community by providing emergency ambulance services for clinic transport and referrals.
